SENATOR ISIAKA ADETUNJI ADELEKE'S DEATH:
MEDICAL AND DENTAL COUNCIL OF NIGERIA ABSOLVES CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF LAUTECH TEACHING HOSPITAL OSOGBO OF ALLEGATIONS OF GROSS PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT AND MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has dismissed the allegations of professional misconduct and medical malpractice levelled against the Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo, Professor Akeem LASISI by the family of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke.
In its letter Ref no: MD PIP/781/111 dated 11th May, 2018, signed by the Secretary of the Investigation Panel, Dr E. D. Abdu, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria said following consideration of petition deposed to on oath by the family of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke and the counter affidavit by the Chief Medical Director, including autopsy report of the said Senator, the Council came to the conclusion that no case of misconduct in a professional respect has been established against Professor Akeem Lasisi. According to the Council,: "The panel has come to a conclusion on the matter. The panel did not establish prima facie case of misconduct in a professional respect against you"
It will be recalled that following the sudden death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke in 2017, his body was brought to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for autopsy. At the conclusion of the autopsy, a member of his family, one Mrs. Dupe Sanni wrote a "Certificate of Honour" to the hospital conveying the family's satisfaction: "On behalf of the Adeleke family, I, Mrs. Dupe Sanni hereby certified that the family is satisfied and hereby confirmed our confidence in the pathology examination conducted by the pathologist in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo on Senator Isiaka Adeleke". Also, a Coroner Inquest was set up by Osun State
Government on the Senator's death. Not satisfied with the outcome of the Coroner's verdict regarding the role of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo on autopsy issue, the Adeleke family sent a petition to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria against the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, a petition which has now been dismissed outrightly.
LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo wishes to state categorically that all its services are in compliance with internationally acceptable practice. The hospital will not deviate from medical ethos and ethics while it will constantly sustain credibility which it has acquired over the years.
Members of the public are assured of continued patient-friendly services.
Thank you.
