Family Medicine Department

Family Medicine Department of this hospital offers holistic, comprehensive and cordinated care to patients irrespective of the age, gender or disease entity within the context of their family and society with 24 hours coverage. We offer clinical care to patient, post-graduate Medical Training in Family Medicine and conduct research. Our residents are equipped to practice in any type of setting. And we have access to a wide scope of patient population and clinical experience in an inter-professional team enviaroment. Our program is internationally recognized for clinical and educational excellence.

National Post graduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN)
West Africa College of Physician (WACP)

Units in Department

A.  General Family Medical Unit

  • Attends to all below 60years.
  • Offers out patients care in-ward care.
  • Minor surgical procedures with a functional theater.
  • Effective inter-specialist two-way referral system.
  • Special wound care section.
  • Physical examination and wellness care.
  • Complete child care from infancy through adolescence.
  • Parental care.
  • Pre-employment, school, government and camp physical.
  • Preventive diagnostic screening tests.
  • Teatment of chronic diseases.
  • Specialized Nutritional clinic days on Tuesday/Thursday.

B.  Geriatric Unit

  • Attends to people of 60years and above irrespective of disease condition.
  • Has a separate building to ease and facilitates care for the elderly.
  • Headed direction by the head of Department, Dr Afolabi Babatunde.
  • Has a senior registrar, 3 junior regisrars, a nurse matron and one nurse assistant.
  • Outpatient and in-ward facilities for clinical observation and care.
  • Presently have over a thousand of patients.
  • Nutritional clinic runs twice weekly to meet the need of our aged headed by Hospital Nutritionist.

C.  Palliative Unit

The NHIS unit of the department offers holistic comprehensive and coordinated care to patients and stipulated dependents duly registered under the scheme with 24hours coverage.
  • Attends to patients with chronic pain, terminal illness condition.
  • Offer clinical, in-ward and home care/visit.
  • Has a consulting and senior registrar attached to the unit.
  • The department is starting afresh with new ideas with collaboration of a functional centre in University College Hospital (UCH).

D.  NHIS a Unit Family Medicine Department

The NHIS unit of the department offers holistic comprehensive and coordinated care to patients and stipulated dependents duly registered under the scheme with 24hours coverage.
