Historical Background

The first Head of Department was Dr (Mrs) A. A. Adeniyi, from October 1998 to October 2001, Dr T. O. Bello from October 2001 to October 2007, and Dr A. A. Aremu from October 2007 to October 2011.The Department is accredited to train medical students, postgraduate residents in Radiology and intern radiographers. The department provides radiological services which include computerised tomography, digital fluoroscopy, and a wide range of ultrasound services. Notable awards and fellowship by members of staff, is the award of the Derek Harwood Nash fellowship to Dr T. O. Bello in interventional radiology by the Radiological Society of North America, Chicago, Illinois in 2009. The department is actively involved in research activities, we have been in the forefront of research on breast cancer, and developed a local and cost effective method of localising breast lesions on ultrasound. Also, we are leaders in the field of research in Radiation protection. Our vision is to continue to be an innovator and leader in Clinical Medical Imaging and establish a strong and robust residency training program.

Mission statement for the department of radiology

To provide excellent medical imaging services to patients at affordable prices, and to produce competent radiologist scientists. The LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Department of Radiology was among the foundation members of the hospital in 1998 when it became affiliated with the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.
